Egyptian Daily Life.

Courtney has been working all week to teach the family about Daily Life in Ancient Egypt.

She made notes in a little notebook, and is using a favourite book to read many inserts, and tell us about life.

She told us about how the families would allow the children to spend their first years playing, so they will grow up healthy and strong. Then they would start to help their parents work. Kids also did not need to wear clothing, some boys actually went to school naked, and were not required to wear clothing until they were apprentice scribes.


She talked about how the father teaches his son math with real problem. Things like: 2,300,000 blocks of stone will be needed to build a pyramid, each boat brings 100 block of stones, and travels 1000 miles from Awan to Giza and back.

She had hoped that we would spend some time building and making some crafts together, but it was late, so we will have to try that another time.

She did show us some sticks that have hieroglyphics on them, that were part of a game that she made. She make the entire board, and the pieces, and sticks that are needed to play. We will make a point to play it with her tomorrow!

Then she showed us a music instrument that a young girl would learn to play if she was planing on becoming a Priestess in the temples.

It was a great glimpse as to everyday life.

Kenny wants to show off too!

The girls were presenting their Egyptian Projects.
Kenny surprised us by announcing that he also had a presention.
We asked what he knew about Egypt.
He replied, that he could throw a ball.
He then gave us a demonstration as to what a great thrower and catcher he was.

He did a great Job, and we are so happy that he wanted to share something he has being doing too!

Sarah's Powerpoint

Sarah has been working all week on a Powerpoint Presentation. She decided she wanted to learn about Gods in Egypt.

She created an information page about each God, and then showed a picture. She has a few things to change, and then wants to publish it in a place for everyone to view.

She told us about Isis, the Goddess of Nature. She sometimes wore a winged Headdress or had wings for arms.

Isis married Orisis. She explained that Osiris was the God of Agriculture. He was killed by his jealous brother, and so he become God of Underworld. He was the brother and husband of Isis. At that time Royalty had to only marry royalty (often a brother or sister) , so Egyptian Gods were believed to do the same.

Horus was the son of Isis and Osiris. He was the Sky God. Every morning he rode a boat through the sky to help push the sun through it.

Thoth was the God of wisdom and the inventor of picture writing .he was also the God of scribes.

Sarah did a great Job answer questions, and teaching the whole family what the Egyptians believed.
