My husband came to cuddle with me for a while today. I missed his hugs!

Elves need caffeine to?
We woke up to find Jane making coffee.
As every kid woke up this morning they and asked the same question "How will dad make his coffee? ".. maybe jane was feeling grumpy and wanted some caffeine.
It's a good thing dad has a tassimo or we would have also had grumpy dad!

Happy New Year!
Our new years celebration lasted for the first time till midnight! We made lots of noise for our traditional 10:00 Ontario New Year, then continued to play games till midnight.
We ate homemade nachos, and treats uncle Andrew bought.
We all played poo and rumoli.
It was a great night, and fun for everyone.
A new year beings new goals. Kenny's goal is to have his room clean all year round. Adrian's goal is to do his chore everyday. Mom's goal is to write in her journal daily. Dad's goal is not to make a goal for new years this year. Courtney's goal is to write all least one page a day. Sarah's goal is..... Nicole's goal is to play with family at least once a week.
We also have a family challenge for the month of January. Those able to, will be taking pics daily of a specific theme. We will be posting them on the blog. I hope everyone will enjoy seeing how each of us see things differently or similarly in our world as we try this for the month.
Tank You
Kenny has been working with his dad to put together his very first model. He got it for Christmas. He has been clipping little pieces of plastic, and using toothpicks to glue this tank together. Last night they finished getting it together. Next step will be painting it.
Now he can say, "tank you for helping me dad."

Family dinner
We had our first family dinner held at the church. It was great. The tables were set in a square, allowing us all to chat and visit. We all brought something for the turkey dinner. Then came a sing along, a visit from Santa, and games in the gym. It was a great night, there was lots of room for the kids, and everyone helped clean up. This looks like a new tradition.

Breakfast surprise
Us kids were home alone least night while mom and dad helped with the high school play. Dad was running lights and mom interpreted. After the show everything had to be stripped down and the gym back to normal before mom and dad left. It brought back lots of old memories for them, and it'd was fun for them. because they were returning home after 1:00am, we kids took the time to plan a great breakfast surprise.
At 6:30 we got up to prepare. We toasted the bread, made slushies and cleared the table.
The boys dressed in our home made waiter outfits, then we woke mom and dad up.
We insisted they come out to the table for our breakfast surprise. We served toast, strawberry slushies, and the jello and carrot cake with icing we made for them last night.
They loved it, but were so tired they only ate part of it and put the rest in the fridge for later then went back to bed.
It was a great breakfast surprise they said.

Its been a while
I know we haven't updated our blog as often as we used to, but things have become a little busier around here. So here is an update on what our family is up to.
Ken is working full time (YEAH) in Lethbridge at a place called "Ultimate Freedom Plus". They provide things to allow people with difficulties the "Freedom" to move around and do the things they used to do. Ken mostly repairs, assembles, and delivers wheelchairs, scooters, lift chairs, and stair-glides. He LOVES it. He has a company vehicle to use on work hours, and he drives all over southern Alberta helping people. He loves to chat with the clients and working with his hands. It is a 40 minute drive to work, but he feels it is well worth it. He loves to watch movies and programs from the internet in the evenings, and was disappointed that "Chuck" came to and end. Together we are working our way through "Eureka" episodes and "Once upon a Time"
I am also working. I'm at Inline Ovals. I started with cutting glass for bending (to make glass that bubbles out of the picture frames. I worked hard and got 3 months supply of glass cut and on the shelf. Then I ended up working only 2 days a week for 3 hours to maintain this supply. Just after Christmas, I was offered their idea of full time. I was (and continue) to be trained to help the Distribution Manager. If she goes on holidays, or is sick, I should know enough to step in a take over the job. Its a lot to learn, but I love it. I work from 9:00am to whenever the job is done. As January is a slow month, I am usually home around 1:30-2:30pm. We only have one vehicle, so I bike to work and back. (I take the mountain bike in the snow, and the racing bike when he roads are clear.) I feel alsot busier, and struggle fitting everything I used to do all day into a much smaller time frame, but I am sure I'll figure it out eventually.
Sarah is enjoying grade eight. She is earning A's in most of her classes. She attends young womens each week. She is a great help in the home, she might fuss a bit about helping out, but I can always count on her to get the job done. She still enjoys reading and is currently reading "The children of promise". She still loves music, and plays her harmonica continually. She has a great smile, and seems to do well with young children and can keep them entertained and happy.
Courtney is also enjoying school, much to her surprise. She was stressed about attending public school, but has fit in well with her grade six class. She also is doing very well in most of her subjects. She loves reading and has organized a book club. It will have its first meeting this week. She wants to be a cook and a fashion designer and is very picky about the clothes she wears. They must look good, but also be very comfortable. It is a good thing we have wonderful friends who can provide hand me downs that she loves. She also has been taking Lulu out for walks everyday and is working on teaching her obstacle course tricks
Nicole is also enjoying school. Her favourite subject is gym, math and science. She enjoys have school friends over on Wednesdays after school. She loves to play games, and spend time with people. She knows how to push my buttons. She can be a wonderful help when she puts her mind to it. She loves to talk and share everything that has happened that day with us at the dinner table. She loves attending Activity Days every other week. She just changed her special Irlen colour of paper from pink to a pale purple and her overlay sheets were blue, and now she has two sets of grey she uses together
Kenny has also adjusted to public school. We held him back, and put him into grade one, as we felt he wasn't ready for grade two. It was the right decision, as we learned this year that Kenny also has Irlen Syndrome (same as Nicole and myself). He is rated very severe and struggles with words floating up hovering just off his page and then sliding sideways off the paper. or dimming out to leave only the outline of letters and not knowing what the inside of a letter is. (is that an a o, e, a, c or s?) No wonder he struggled with reading, and math! Poor kid! He now has coloured overlay sheet and special colour paper that will correct about 25%-30% of the problem, and we are saving up to get him specially tinted lens that are not covered by health care, and is very expensive! His special colour of paper is pale green and his overlay sheets are one yellow, and one green.
Adrian has struggled the most with the change to public school. At the beginning of the year, he found himself alone with just Mom for the morning, until it was time for him to go to school. It was exciting at first, but he soon realized he missed his family that he had always been with, especially his brother. When Mom started working, Adrian also had to adjust to attending a babysitter for the mornings. He seems to finally be settling in and happy to go to the babysitters, and then off to school for the afternoon. He is learning tons, and is easily putting letter sounds together and reading words. I've a feeling he will be well prepared for grade one next year.
Kens parents spent some time out here just before Christmas. It was wonderful to see them and have an early Christmas with them. It was hard to see Kens father struggle with the thinner air here, and he did have to spend some time in the hospital while he was here. As a christmas gift, they also purchased all the supplies we needed to finish our one and only bathroom. Now we have a beautiful floor, new toilet, walls with drywall and painted my favourite green, and a gorgeous double sink. We have put up curtains around the toilet, and now we can leave the bathroom door open and have a number of people using the sinks and mirrors, and not have to kick everyone out when someone needs to use the toilet. (Just in time, before the house if full of teenagers). It was a wonderful gift, and we really appreciate it!

Happy Anniversary
Today is our 15th anniversary.
It is amazing to think how much life has changed in those years.
We have 5 wonderful children.
Have moved to the other side of the country.
Own a three bedroom home, with room to garden, and play
Made great friends over the years. Some we have stayed in touch with.
Found a few hobbies to enjoy together as a family. (Geocaching, Park and Library hopping)
Gone through more used couches then we can count!
Discovered the luxury of late night snacks. (after the kids are in bed)
Spent countless hours chatting, cuddling, and watching movies together.
Learned that a couch is big enough for two to fall asleep on... for a few hours only.
Flowers are still a special way to say "I love you"
Loves grows deeper and better as the years pass.

Magrath Days 2011
We had our yearly Magrath Day celebrations recently.
Friday morning was a rainy free pancake breakfast at the local bank. Lunch was a free hamburger, or hotdog, pop and chips at the local insurance company. Supper we ate in a hurry, as we rushed out the door to attend the "Magrath Family Rodeo and Bullriding". We were lucky to get free tickets (thanks Grandpa and Nana Moore). Adrian, Kenny, and Nicole all tried to catch the pig, and the chicken, but didn't succeed. Our friend Bruston Holthe (the same age as Kenny), did catch the pig, and got to keep it....so they butchered it!. We watched people try to dress the calves, then watched as the cowboys attepted to ride the big bucking bulls. We got home and decorated the three kids bikes for the parade the next day before heading to bed late.
Saturday mom was responsible for the parade so she was busy all morning. Dad was helping with radio communications. Kenny changed his mind and didn't want to be in the parade, and Adrian's tire popped just as it was time to leave for the parade line up. So that left only Nicole in the parade. She was happy to win 2nd place for best decorated bike, and $5 in cash. All the other kids sat with Grandpa and Nana Moore, while Mom and Dad were busy. The parade was bigger then last year, and Mom was happy to have Dads help with communications and traffic. The afternoon was filled with astro jumps, fun races, lawnmower races, petting zoo, show and shine, quilt display, silent auction and talent show. In the evening, we had our free beef on a bun, and watch the town program and Trevor Panzack preform with his band. The evening ended with a amazing firework display. It was a great night!

Summer is 1/2 over
We are just heading into August and I thought it would be a good time to catch everyone up on the happenings of the Alberta Lynch's. Sorry, but as our camera is broken, yet again, so we haven't posted any pictures. (Only Ken's IPhone to take pics).
The begining of summer started with a round of the chicken pox for the two boys. They each had enough spots to know they had the chicken pox, but not enough to slow them down. We did confine them to the house, and backyard to play, so our neighborhood friends would not catch them as well. Unfortunately, we were not able to attend Grandpa Moores 60th Birthday party, as we didn't want to spread this to our young cousin Stanley.
Our Nana and Gramps Shortt came out this summer and spent two weeks visiting us most days and evenings. It was great to spend time working on Family History together, going shopping, hanging out, or out fishing. The creek is still really high from all the rain we had earlier this spring, so we struggled with catching much fish, but we did have fun trying.
Adrain also turned 5 at the beginning of summer. He was excited to have extra family here. (As Nana and Gramps Shortt were here too). We planned to have a party at the school park, but the day of the party turned out to have 60-80km hour winds, so we changed the location to Grandpa and Nana Moore's side yard where it was sheltered from the wind. We where grateful to have friends (Hamiltons) and family willing to all pitch in, so we could serve "Salad in a Bag" (Leave a comment, and I'll send anyone instructions for the easy and delicious picnic meal). We had cake (that wasn't soo good), and openned presents, then the kids ran across the street to the school park to play.
Dad is working at Evergreen Golf Club, repairing Go-carts and other landscaping equipment. He is only working part-time, but has enjoyed the work and looks forward to each new challenge or project. With only 24 hours of work a week, things are very tight here. Dad has begain to look for another part or full time job, and Mom is preparing to return to the working world in the fall.
All the kids will be in school come September. Adrian will be attending afternoon four days a week, and every other Friday after November 1. Mom is starting to watch the sales flyers and try to pick up cheap school supplies here and there. We will all be starting our school time bedtimes again this month to get in the habit of getting up early, eating breakfast, and being all dressed and ready to be out the door before school starts.... 8:15ish, we guess.

Weekly Boys Night Out
Every thursday dad takes the two boys around the corner to the local FCSS Building (Family and Community Support Services). They get to enjoy and evening of "Stay and Play" just for Dads. The boys love to play in the foam pit, and make soup in the kitchen. This gives an evening out for the only the boys, and an evening in for only the girls

It is really cold when....
Dad watched a YouTube video about taking boiling water outside, and throwing it up into the air and watching in form into powder. It only works when it is really cold outside.
At -26 today we thought we too would give it a try.
We boiled the kettle, had the kids get on hats, mittens, coats and boots, and gave each of them a mug.They had so much fun making snow, we boiled the kettle a second time, so they could all try it some more.
Here is the steps if you want try it yourself.
Wait for -25C or lowerBoil the water in a kettle,
Take an empty mug outside, along with the kettle
pour the water into the mug
throw the water into the air
bring the camera to take pictures to prove it works
