Printing Press Tour

One evening while we were caching for Family Home Evening in Lethbridge, we happened upon the Lethbridge Herald. We could see through the window and see people working on a printing press for the newspaper.  We stood and watched in amazement as they added metal sheets to a number of rollers.  We saw them spread ink in a trough, and feed the paper through. 

It was getting cold, and we were not sure how long it was going to be before they actually started the press, so we decided to it was time to head home.  Just as we turned to leave, a man with a camera came and introduced himself, and talked to us about printing, and the newspaper.  Before we knew it, the people down below in the window were motioning for us to come in.   So we got a tour!

The man was the sports writer for the paper, and took us through most of the rooms in the building.  We saw the place they bring in the giant rolls of paper, the press printing a weekly paper for another town, how they move the papers up and into the inserting room (inserting advertisements, stapling or other extras).  We saw where they store all the advertisments, and make calls to place ads in the paper.  He told us that they are unable to use the back half of the press, as it is sinking into the floor.  The cost of lifting it back up is too much.  He explained how little 4 color printing has changed over 100 years, but expressed that he doesn't think our grandchildren will ever see a printing press as technology is changing.

We had a wonderful tour, and was thankful that he would take some time out of his work day to show our family what happens to make a daily newspaper.

Pancake Tuesday

Today is pancake tuesday!  So we made breakfast with Newfie Pancakes... or Toutons. Yummy!
It is bread dough, fried in a pan.  We dipped them in Apple Syrup, Saskatoon Syrup, Honey or the traditional "molasses".

It was a good treat!
But they were gone so fast, we didn't get a picture!

Lulu

We had an unexpected addition join the family last night.

We found out that this three year old black lab, needed a new home. Her family was moving into a place that won't allow dogs, quickly and unexpectedly over the holidays.

Her owner asked if we knew anyone who could take her, and after talking about it, we decided we would.

She has a very loud thumping tail when she is happy, and loves to play. She is still missing her family, and whimpers at the front door. She is completely house trained, knows hand signals, is amazing with all the kids, and gets along fine with Missy.

She will be a great addition to our family, as she settles in and makes this place her new home.

Playing around in Ontario

We all had a wonderful time! Adrian started trying to stand alone, and would balance for several seconds on his own.













Courtney bought a streamer, good for dancing at the dollar store, and enjoyed a warm sunny afternoon playing outside with it.

















While Courtney danced, Sarah took the chance to enjoy the fresh clear sidewalk to color and experiment with chalk colors.













Our family was invited out to dinner at my brothers house. The kids had a wonderful time playing dress up. Here is Kenny as a cow, and Courtney as a clown!

















On that same sunny day, Nicole and Kenny also enjoyed the chalk, and bug net from the dollar store. The two of them get along so well together!














At Nana Shortts house she has a large toy box full of musical instruments, The children put of a musical concert to show off their talents and love of music.














Kenny in rhythm, Sarah on the recorder, Courtney the xylophone, and Nicole uses a paper roll for a microphone.





After, they all take turns doing a solo. Nicole sings and shows her naturally ability to show off well for the camera and the audience.












Adrian decided he also wants a closer look at this unsual toy with so many colors, and loud noises, to bad he can't quite figure it out right now, give him a few months, and I am sure he will be as loud and crazy as the rest of the kids!
















Nicole is dressed up in a fairy costume she got for Easter. It includes, the wings, and the little crown on her head. Of course, all fairy's have a wand to change people into princes, frogs or whatever takes her fancy.














Sarah looks into the mirror, and poses for a picture, She likes the double image, and any excuse to show off her fairy outfit too!





We have had so much fun!

Family in Ontario

We saw so much family while we were visiting, that it was amazing!

It was also amazing to see all the smiles, and feel those wonderful family hugs!
