Taking a Day Trip!

We decided to take a trip up Calgary (2 1/2 hour drive) and see some site along the way. We planned to stop in Nanton (45 minutes from Calgary) and visit the train museum, and the Lancaster Bomb museum. We also hoped to get up the "Lee Valley" and possibly "Regal" while in Calgary.

We had thing to do, kids to pack into the van, and tools to unload, so we didn't get out of Magrath until noon. We hit Lethbridge, and Mommy decided to stop at the used book store first. Daddy decided we also had to drive thru some burgers. 1:30pm, we are finally leaving Lethbridge.

Along the way we saw huge trains, we couldn't see the end of. We even saw a "self" weigh scale. We thought about stopping to see how much the van weighed, but we had already passed it! We could see the mountains most of the trip, and the white snow on them. We saw lots of farms, prairies, windmills, and animals.

We arrived in Nanton, and went right to the train place first. It was a large 7000 sq Ft outdoor working size G Trains and Models. It was supposed to be a great thing to see. But they were closed for the season and hoped to open in June. So we missed the Trains!

We then drove the one block over to the Lancaster Air Museum. It was great! The girls got to see many small models of planes. We talked about the markings on the planes, and what the purpose of having circles, or "X" on the plane was for. We got to touch a giant airplane wheel, and see that it was much bigger then they were. We even walked around a hanger and saw many gun turrets, and many different types of planes. Some had different types of engines, or different tails, or wings. Sarah's favorite was the bi planes (two wings, above one another). We even show them what bombs looked like, and what happened when they were dropped. We were able to al put on a hard hat, and walk inside a Lancaster Bomber!

We had to talk about why there was war, and how important it was to make sure people are free to choose what they believe in, what they want to do, and what they will be when they grow up. They were amazed to learn that there is some places in the world like that today.

We decided a quick trip to the park was a great way to end this adventure. Then we decided to head our way home, instead of Calgary. We arrived home at 8:30pm. Twilight!
We had a wonderful day!!!
