It was a hot day on Monday and Daddy decided to cool the kids off with a few water balloons. Then the girls decided that water felt so good that they wanted the sprinkler on. Mandy saw the sprinkler, and invited the girls over for a swim. The pool was cool, but all the girls had fun.

Bird Book

We have decided to learn about the local birds here in Margrath. We have a bird feeder in our Apple Tree, just outside the front window. The Sarah loves to look up each bird and learn about where it lives, and what it eats.

So far we have the Black-billed Magpie, House Sparrow, American Robin, and Black Capped Chickedee. We also had a Dark-Eyed Junco come. It was larger then a Robin, and only passes throught the area in April/May.

We have seen in the past, woodpeckers, owls, sparrow hawk, wild quail.

We collecting pictures, and here a magpie.

Outside the Museum

The Kids played outside the museum in the wind. It was so windy that the girls were laughing and joking about blowing away.

This is the train bridge that crosses the coulee. It was built in Hamilton, Ontario, and brought here by train to be assembled. It is Canada's Highest and Longest train bridge.

This is a picture taken across the coulee to the other side. You can see the hills and ridges that are normal in a coulee. You can also see a large building stretched across. That is Lethbridge University. It was designed to fit directly in the coulee, and is a very unique building.

Here is a picture of the girls playing in the wind. Courtney found it so strong that she could lean forward into the wind and wouldn't fall over.

It was a great way to spend a beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon.

Galt Museum

On Saturday the Galt Museum had their Grand RE-OPENING. The admission was free, and they had new displays and free entertainment.

The kids enjoyed themselves. They saw coal mining and learned about the dangers of coal mine and coal dust.

We saw a model with screen of a airplane and some of the controls. Kenny and Courtney tried it out.

Just outside the exhibit, we some displays
showing
other museums and places to visit in the area. The discover Alberta display had a little horse puppet. Kenny liked this horse much better then the real ones!

The displays had a lot to do with the 50's and 60's, Courtney is opening the fridge to learn even more about the lethridge area at that time.

As they went throughout the museum they were on the look out for a treasure hunt. They had pictures of things to find, and the received a sweet treat for doing all that great searching for thing in the display.

Daddy is helping the girls circle the items on their sheets.

We also took a short walk outside, had the kids faces painted, and learned about the Japanese in the area.

It fit in perfectly with the Japan unit we were working on for home schooling. They showed the big boxes the Japanese people made to bring their personal items here. How they often worked on the sugarbeet plantations, and it even had some toys that Japanese kids would have played with.

It was a great way to spend a Saturday!
